Tips for transfer students

If you're a transfer student like me, you might be a bit overwhelmed by being at a new school. Friends, classes, campus involvement--where to start! Here's a few tips I've picked up that are sure to help you be a success in and out of the classroom.

Making friends:
-Make sure to prop open your door, your building's door, and your balcony door if you have one, so everybody can come in! Remember, strangers are just friends you haven't met yet.
-Offer your room as a place for anything people might want to hide: animal, vegetable, or mineral. Nothing makes a friend like random acts of kindness, and nothing bad could possibly happen to you from doing this.

Success in classes:
-Ask lots of questions just before class is about to end, when you've seen the bulk of the material. The only silly question is no question at all!
-If you need help, don't be afraid to give your professors a call at home. If they didn't like talking to you, they wouldn't be teachers.

Joining clubs:
-Try to sign up for as many as possible, early on in the semester. It's okay to pick up a lot of obligations, and no one will care if you drop them later.
-Let your groups borrow your credit card to cover any costs. You'll be reimbursed without delay and help out the club in a big way.
