Students Against Poverty sponsor ugly T-shirt collection day

Wash U's Students Against Poverty are collecting the unattractive T-shirts cluttering closets across the South 40 and donating them to needy St. Louisians.
The event will take place Nov. 14th from 1-7 at the Wohl Center.

"Students are given countless poorly designed and unwearable T-shirts while at Wash U. From rescolleges to blood giveaways, professional societies to pointless charity events, every student has at least 10 shirts that any normal person would never consider wearing. We're collecting these awful garments and giving them to poor people" said SAP President Jamie McGarvey.

SAP Secretary Bill Fried added, "Many privileged students don't realize that there are people living right outside our campus that aren't given unsightly garments at every occasion. They might only have 6-8 T-shirts altogether! But if we work hard, we can fix this situation, and feel good about ourselves."

In addition to a large bin to receive the donations, the event will feature a table of refreshments, a room in which participants are encouraged to pat themselves on the back for giving their valuable gifts, and a specially designed T-shirt given to participants to commemorate the event. It will be forest green with a large SAP logo on the front and numerous logos of various student government groups and local sponsors on the back. Sizes L, XL, and XXL will be available.
